JC is the driving force behind Shiloh Ranch. His knowledge comes from years of hands-on experience working with horses, cattle, ranching and agriculture.
JC’s approach is practical. He teaches by doing.
Whether a student is learning to approach a difficult horse, work cattle, understand ranch equipment or complete an everyday job around the farm, JC believes in explaining the why as much as the how.
Horsemanship in particular teaches lessons that extend far beyond riding: patience, timing, confidence, respect, consistency and responsibility.
At Shiloh, JC passes on the skills and knowledge that have been part of his own life while helping young people develop skills they can carry into theirs.
Shiloh Ranch is very much a family endeavour, and Marina is an integral part of creating the environment in which students become part of ranch life.
While JC leads much of the practical ranch and horsemanship training, Marina helps provide the structure, support and sense of family that sits at the heart of Shiloh.
Together, JC and Marina want students to experience more than a programme. They want them to experience a way of life.
A place where people work together, eat together, learn together, laugh together and understand the value of contributing to something bigger than themselves.

They may have rather important names, but they have an equally important job — providing us with fresh eggs.
It’s a small part of ranch life, but an important one. Learning where your food comes from, caring for the animals that provide it and appreciating the simple things are all part of getting back to basics at Shiloh Ranch.
Shiloh is a working ranch and a wildlife home at the same time. Alongside the cattle, the horses and the flock, this is who else shares the veld with us.
